Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation

The Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, Inc. (MCFM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing professional support and public information regarding the practice of mediation. The Council maintains a referral directory to aid potential clients in finding and choosing mediators to aid them in resolving their disputes. The Council also provides professional education and establishes standards of practice for mediators.

Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council

The Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council is an association of attorneys and other professionals committed to resolving conflict in a collaborative manner and dedicated to helping our clients achieve amicable settlements of disputes by problem-solving and negotiation. The Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council trains attorneys and collaborative professionals, educates the public regarding the collaborative option and promotes the use of the collaborative law practice throughout Massachusetts.

International Academy of Collaborative Professionals

The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals is committed to expanding the use of collaborative practice into all areas of dispute resolution throughout the world. The IACP is dedicated to service to its members and the public through fostering professional excellence and professional development as well as establishing standards of practice and professional ethics. It provides a central resource for education, networking and referrals.

Massachusetts Uniform Mediation Act Working Group

In September 2007, a group of mediators from around the Commonwealth convened to review the Uniform Mediation Act with the goal that the mediation community in Massachusetts, through a collaborative process, could support a statute with a united voice in the Massachusetts legislature. The UMA addresses the confidentiality of mediation, conflicts of interest, and disclosure of mediator qualifications. Additional information about the UMA can be found at the Uniform Law Commission web site. Choose "Mediation Act" for the Act Title and "Massachusetts" for the state. After two years of hard work, the Working Group concluded that we did not support the UMA as drafted and we did not have consensus on changes, if any, to present to the legislature. The Working Group has therefore disbanded. It is anticipated that all UMA Working Group members and any other interested parties will be contacted in July/August of 2010 to determine the need and interest in convening a new group to re-examine the UMA.
